I know how it works with addicts...My lover (in college) was a addict and also a poet...We never spoke much, but he stopped it, in some time...
But many even stopped their studies...engineering colleges one time were notorius for this...they used to grow it in the woods behind the hostel :)
Some haikus takes us to periods long back :)
